Stock single phase alternators on FL models generate a harsh output straining the charging system and create excess drag at the crank. Upgrading to 3-phase offers; smoother output, increased reliability, significantly less losses at the crank, increased charging capacity (when upgrading from 38 amp). Upgrade requires replacing Stator, Rotor and Rectifying Regulator as a set.
